D.A.R.E. is a preventive program that is provided to all fifth grade students in the county.  This program teaches our impressionable youth about the dangers of illicit drugs, as well as conflict resolution, means of handling peer pressure and the emotional roller coaster of adolescence. A special feature of Project D.A.R.E is the use of deputies as instructors.

The major objectives of D.A.R.E. are:

• To provide accurate information on drugs and alcohol
• To teach students how to utilize decision-making skills
• To show students how to resist peer pressure
• To give them ideas for alternatives to drug use

D.A.R.E. is most beneficial when the community shares the enthusiasm of the school division and the sheriff's office in presenting this program to students.  Please feel free to contact the sheriff's office with questions or to find out how you can support this program.
