Application forms are available at this office, or may be downloaded here.  Incomplete applications will not be considered. 

All applicants must submit the following documents

  • State Employment application form
  • True copy of birth certificate
  • Copy of high school diploma (original must be available for inspection) and copy of high school transcript, or;
    G.E.D. certificate and test scores, or;
    Copy of college diploma (original must be available for inspection)
  • Copy of military discharge papers, if applicable

Applicants may submit the following documents:

  • Copies of certificates from any state approved training schools or academies
  • Copies of specialized training certificates related to prior employment or field of study
  • Not more than three letters of recommendation

Applicants are generally fingerprinted at the time the application package is submitted for consideration.  While fingerprinting usually takes about 10 minutes, it may be as long as 30 minutes before this can be done.  Applicants must present a valid, government-issued photo identification card at the time of fingerprinting.

Position Duties

Patrol Deputy

Perform patrol and enforcement activities for full service sheriff’s office; serve criminal and civil process; provide court security, and other assigned tasks.   Weekends, holidays, overtime, off site training and shift work required.
Note:  This is a sworn position; applicants must be eligible to carry a firearm.

Correctional Deputy

Custodial duties for jail operations, including but not limited to receiving and processing of prisoners; direct supervision of inmates; transportation; court security; communications; and other assigned tasks.  Weekends, holidays, overtime, shift work and off-site training required.

Communication Operator

Receive, document, prioritize and dispatch calls for service related to law enforcement, fire and rescue operations for a rural county.  Must be able to communicate clearly by telephone, radio and in person.  Position requires the use of automated dispatch and records management systems, including Internet.  Must perform other duties as assigned.  Weekends, holidays, shift work, overtime and off-site training may be required.

Administrative Assistant

Perform Incident Based Criminal Report data entry and submission; prepare monthly billing reports; perform secretarial tasks related to general office administration; handle data entry related to civil process function; and other assigned tasks. Some holiday, week-end and overtime work may be required.

Cook

Plan and prepare meals for up to 40 people per meal within the jail environment; must maintain at least two weeks of advanced menus; order food stocks and related supplies; supervise assigned inmate(s) with respect to meal preparation and cleaning tasks; and other assigned duties.  Holidays, weekends and 12 hour shifts required.

Victim-Witness Program Staff

This part-time, grant-funded position carries no employee benefits.  The position requires strong interpersonal communication skills with crime victims and witnesses of all socio-economic levels.  Must monitor cases through the criminal justice system; develop and maintain working contacts with private and government agencies on a local and regional level; aid, assist and refer victims and witnesses as necessary; prepare and submit an annual budget and statistical reports as required; and other assigned duties.  Holidays, weekend and emergency response times may be required; off-site training is required.
