The School Resource Officer (SRO) program is a joint project between the sheriff's office and the local school board.  Besides providing a law enforcement presence within the school, the SRO often serves as a mentor and informal counselor to students.

At Lancaster High School, the SRO is Master Deputy Mac Carter.  While the SRO may be asked to serve as a classroom speaker, he does not perform the duties of a teacher on a regular basis.
